Our Ann Arbor Townhouse project was one of our favorites for its end results without major remodeling. We swapped out vinyl floors for cork in the kitchen, added new counters, lighting, plumbing fixtures, and a gorgeous backsplash.
In the living/dining area, we traded carpeting for bamboo flooring, swapped light fixtures, and added sconces. Changing the room arrangement made tv viewing easier, and created an uninterrupted fireplace focal point . New paint colors and accessories added freshness and style. We were able to keep the homeowner's favorite sectional and cherry dining furniture, while making her living space seem new.
Our homeowner had a very limited budget for this makeover of her kitchen and family room so we turned to Ikea for much of the furnishings. After removing a small awkwardly placed kitchen island, we filled the space with an antique table painted a gorgeous shade of eggplant. New counters, plumbing fixtures, window coverings, cabinet hardware, and a stone backsplash complete the kitchen facelift.
Wood flooring laid on the diagonal changed the look of the long, narrow rooms. Facing the fireplace with slate tile running horizontally added a contemporary feel. Ikea cabinetry was fitted on each side of the surround for a built-in look at a fraction of the price. De Silva + Mahan Interiors won the IKEA Room of the Week for this lovely makeover. We are so proud of the results.
We saved the Brazilian cherry flooring and mirrored walls in this 1990's builder grade bath, and also kept the basic layout. However, we modernized the look by swapping out a dated corner tub with this freestanding beauty. The tub and onyx tile are now the stars of the elegant contemporary space, complete with quilted maple cabinetry and sleek plumbing fixtures.
Our modern small bathroom was designed for a male client who liked his space sleek and neat. The room already included a stained glass window bringing natural light from a sunlit hallway. While keeping this feature, we modernized the rest of the bath using two tile colors, and contemporary fittings. The second photo shows the space in its "before" state, while the third photo shows a hand drawing used to help our client visualize our concepts. The basic layout remained the same. A deeper soaking tub replaced the original. And a floating shelf was added to the mirror area to increase storage in the limited space.
Our clients' love for bright colors, photography, and entertaining inspired this dramatic powder room renovation. A wall to wall black granite floating counter suspended over a floor to ceiling mirror adds drama to the area. Wall space is used to create a gallery of photographs taken by the client. A full length mirror placed by the door allows guests to "check" themselves before exiting.
Our latest project is underway. The old white cabinets are gone, and the installation of the new cabinets has begun. The white lowers are being replaced by a contemporary alder cabinet. The uppers will be painted a "moody blue", and framed in alder.
The blue painters tape on the floor represents a new shape for the island. We plan on keeping the Brazilian cherry flooring but are bidding the cabinetry goodbye. With some luck we will be able to reuse the Corian counter in the laundry room. Ditto for the cabinets that are still in decent shape. Stay tuned for more photos and info as the work progresses.
